Cannot rename folder - access denied -- WHY??

I'm using XP Pro SP1 ... I'm the ONLY user, I have full administrative
privileges. More and more often, lately, this has been happening:

I'll try to move a file from a folder, move a folder, rename a folder, etc.,
and I get the message, "Cannot rename [name of file or folder] - access is
denied." I'm aware that the NORMAL reason for this is, the folder or file is
currently being accessed by some other program. But that is NOT the case ...
I've closed ALL programs ... there's NOTHING accessing the file or folder in
question.

Usually, rebooting resolves the problem, but not always. I've even got "New
Folder" folders that are EMPTY that cannot be deleted. I'd be hugely
grateful if anybody could tell me how to resolve this.

Thanks very much!

it might be the folders. give some names of them would be helpful did you
create them ?

try renaming it. then delete it. works for me sometimes when all else
fails.

I do not intend for this to sound argumentative, so please don't think it
is. The SUBJECT of this post is "Cannot rename folder..." and your advice is
"try renaming it" .... what am I misunderstanding?

Michael's suggestion may have been the key...a folder that I was unable to
delete AND unable to rename WAS finally deleted after running Ad-Aware to
get rid of Spyware.....

Thanks.........
