googled it, tried to remove it, could not

Norton Antivirus finds it, but skips from scan to summary, with no prompt
to fix or remove it

I how the file folder it is in, but when I look for it (even after
selecting to show all system files, etc.) it still will not show up. When I
do a search for it, it doesn't show up.

it's this phantom invisible file

Any ideas about how to get rid of it, and why my Norton is not prompting me
to remove it, and will only show me a summary?

For non-viral malware...

Please download, install and update the following software...

* Ad-aware SE v1.06
http://www.lavasoft.de/
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

* SpyBot Search and Destroy v1.4
http://security.kolla.de/

After the software is updated, I suggest scanning the system in Safe Mode.

I also suggest downloading, installing and updating BHODemon for any Browser Helper Objects
that may be on the PC.

* BHODemon
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm

http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=3550&file=11&evp=245a87539eea8ed6904332b4b8b8442d

For viral malware...

* Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

I already have Adware and Spybot and neither did anything to remove or even
detect this file.

Are the other suggestions you made going to remove it? I really hate to
download more than is absolutely necessary.

Are they Ad-aware SE v1.06 and SpyBot S&D v1.4 ? I think that is web hancer (or somerthing
like that) and should be well known to remove.

You can try SuperAdBlocker -- http://www.superadblocker.com

The tool is fully functional and can be used to removal malware for free 15 day period.

Yes, those are the versions of Ad-aware and SpyBot... I will try
SuperAdBlocker but I'm not going to hold my breath. I know lots about
computers and I cant get rid of this........ like I said, Norton detects it,
but won't remove it. Bizarre.

These links could help you :

Another clue ( found in a forum ):
<<<<<
Norton find it but can't delete it .
Source : C\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADEDPROGRAMFILES\WEBP2PINSTALLER.DLL
Description :
C:\WINDOWS\DownloadedProgramFiles\P2PInstaller.dll is a thread .
I went to that folder but couldn't find WEBP2P.
How can I get rid of it ?
The response was :
<<<<
Download Killbox.exe
Open it
Paste : C:\WINDOWS\DownloadedProgramFiles\P2PInstaller.dll
Delete

Then don't forget to delete : C:\!Submit < folder
I hope that'll help you .

SuperAdBlocker often works when others fail.

Would you recommend that list for Win98SE, Thunderbird, and Firefox?

(LOL, the spell check in Thunderbird just marked "Thunderbird" as a
spelling error <G>)

Can you rename or delete it?

| Thanks to someone on the alt.computer NG they suggested Trend Micro and
| their program Housecall. This was the only program that found and deleted
| WebP2PInstaller.dll and even found another threat that all my other virus
| and spy/ad aware programs missed!

|

That's interesting. Was at Trend Micro did you use ?

The Multi AV Scanning Tool I had suggested earlier in this thread provides Trend Micro's
Sysclean utility.

Did you ever try it ? I get the feeling you didn't.

Sorry, I received several suggestions and was going down the line. The one
I used was Trend Micro's "Housecall".

If it is House Call fot anti virus then the Sysclean tool would have worked since it uses
the same signatures. What is important is that you have resolution.
