Cannot remove icon from desktop

Lets say I go to the google homepage and right click the "google" logo. One
of the options is: "set as desktop item". When I left click this option, the
google icon appears on my desktop, but I can't get rid of it. How do I get
rid of this?

Don,
Try this: Right click your desktop and select Properties from the menu.
Then click on the DESKTOP tab at the top and select another item or
BROWSE to what you want as your desktop background and hit APPLY
and OK.. This should take care of it.

Customize Desktop button | Uncheck the item |
Or click the Delete button after highlighting the item |
Click Yes to confirm deletion | Click OK
