Cannot remove files sent to a printer

Yesterday, I was printing fine to a network printer when suddenly the print
job finished on page 2 of a 5 page document.
I am using XP Pro & in the Printer window I receive a message 'access denied
unable to print'.
I have now spend nearly 10 hours trying to find a solution from threads and
the web.
I have tried:
- re-booting the server attached to the printer
- changing the restrictanomyous number in regedit
- running a script to clear the print spool
- reinstalling printer again
- In services, stopping the print spool & starting again
The two other people here have no problems and connect fine.
The only thing I notice is that when I try and reinstall, it says there are
21 documents waiting to be printed & the printer is paused. Everytime I try
and print a test page, this number increases.
In the printers window the printer is not showing as paused. I have tried to
pause againand restart, together with the option to cancel all documents.
This does not work and if I try and install again, it says the printer is
paused & documents are waiting. I wonder if this is the issue, but I cannot
find out how to resolve.
Your guidance would be appreciated.
 
Thank you for your quick reply. I do not think it is a password problem.
Other uses here do not connect or logo with a password and we never did
before?
Any further help would be appreciated as I am really stuck here for a
solution?

Are you printing directly to a build in network card on the printer or a
network device that connects to the printer, or you have the printer shared
from an other machine and you are connecting to that machine not directly to
the printer.

Hello,
We have a Cannon IR8500 printer which is on our network.
None of us logon onto the server in any way or have a passwork combination
to use.
When we have previously tried to add this printer, when you go through the
Add Printer option, browse on the network, you see the printer and connect to
it. We have the discs that provide the correct driver for the machine.
I can reinstall the printer but it continues not to allow me to connect to
it and advises the printer is paused and any test documents are still shown
as waiting to print. Everyone else can print ok & there are no queues or
messages that the printer is paused on their machine or on the printer.
If only I can connect to this printer in some way, I am sure I can delete
the files and it should work ok.
I still do not understand why it should stop printing halfway through a
simple Work document?

I think you are connecting directly to the device rather than through the
print server.

Many of the Canon devices support netbios name resolution and provide a
share resource.

Verify and duplicate how the others are connected to the device. If they
are using a Standard TCP/IP Port use this method.

I am actually printing to a print server attached to the printer.
I have checked with the other users who have no problems and the connection
is the same. It has been working since it was set up and then suddently
stopped and I receive 'Access Denied Unable to Connect. This is even though I
can see the printer on the network and everything else is working properly.
Everything else on the network appears to work properly, shared files,
internet access, etc. However, I just cannot access the ahared printer and
print.
Any ideas welcome. I notice from other searches this is a known problem,
although I cannot find a solution to it yet.
As always any advise would be appreciated.

I does matter where you receive access denied. If you can make the
connection but when you open the print queue to view print jobs the UI
displays Access Denied, this normally indicates that the spooler service on
the machine sharing the printer is getting access denied when connecting to
the spooler service on the machine making the printer connection. This is
the "Allow Anonymous" security change on the client machine.

If you immediately receive Access Denied when connecting to the shared
printer, you do not have access to the shared printer. There is specific
security settings in the print queue that will allow or deny a user or group
from connecting to the print share. This would require a configuration
change to the security setting of the printer.

If it looks like the connection starts but receive Access Denied part way
through the installation, this most likely is a security problem on the
print$ share of the machine sharing the printer and the client is getting
denied access to the print driver files. You can check this from a command
prompt on the client machine but obtaining the directory contents of the
remote machine.

By default print$ is read access for everyone but I've seen this changed and
cause this failure. I have know idea what application changes the setting
from the default. I assume it's antivirus or some other security software.

Fix the machine sharing the printer or create the Local Port since this
method does not download a print driver from the machine sharing the
printer.


If this does not lead to some revelation, I'd unjoin the machine from the
domain and rejoin the domain. I do not know if this would require special
permissions to accomplish this in your environment.
