Cannot reinstall MS Database Engine

Somehow my XPE development installation is corrupted. When
I do check dependencies, it spews out millions of warning
about files not found in repositories. So I decided to
uninstall everything and reinstall. But this time I can
even get past the Database Engine installation. It goes
through the motion and then it quits saying "cannot
configure server". It then rewinds the progress bar and
quit. Can someone help !!!!

Delete the directory by hand, you might have to reboot to keep the DBMS from
locking it, I had the problem the other day and about pulled my hair out
trying to fix it.....
