Hi, I have tried the "troubleshooter" and turned it off/on again, but I get
this message

-- Account: '64.235.247.170', Server: '64.235.247.170', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR Invalid command.', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server
Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Any ideas? My Yahoo a/c is sending and receiving e-mails fine.

Hi Shawn

Yes, I have checked and double checked, all OK. It was working this
morning!!! Aggghhh...... The a/c was set up by the chap who does my
business website, so I'm sorry I don't know who the provider is.

That IP address, 64.235.247.170, traces to an outfit called
A49consultants.com. The latter is not an ISP. It is somewhat
doubtful that a non-ISP mail host would use port 995.
So, as a test, change the POP3 port to 110, no SSL. You can make
this change by going to Tools, Accounts, select the account,
Properties, Advanced.

Note: Tell your tech friend that it is bad practice to use an IP address
instead of the host name for a mail server since servers sometimes
change their assigned IP address.

Thank you. I can now send, but cannot receive? My tech "friend" has been
somewhat unhelpful, ie not responded!

Phoned the webmaster, but he is also stumped. Suggested I change some of the
settings but I now get this error message...

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject
'Test 4', Account: '64.235.247.170', Server: '64.235.247.170', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '550 Your HELO string is incorrect', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Helen,

Are you getting a error message for receiving? It may be similair to
the first one, but with SMTP in it.

Port 25 is an outgoing port but you say you can send but not receive. The
normal incoming port is 110.
