Instead on the web brouserr I would rather receive and send mail on windows
mail program, but cannot. I understand that Yahoo does permit this with a
small fee, but gmail I understand should be working fine. I always get back
the answer below:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'GMAIL', Server:
'pop.mail.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket
Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

anybody to enlighten me on the problem?

You somehow changed the Port and SSL settings back to the defaults SINCE
YOUR PREVIOUS POST.
Go to the advanced tab and change the incoming port to 995 and select SSL.

Set outgoing Port to 465 with SSL.
