Yesterday while draging and droping some files on the
desktop, my computer suddendly gave me an error message
it was going to stop, to keep from possibly damaging my
computer. Said to reboot, and if that didnt work to go
into Bios and do something(and that is what I cannot
remember). Anyway, after rebooting, the computer gets to
the screen where its checking devices, harddrives, etc
(prior to going in to windows), and the next message I
have on the screen is "error loading operating system".
That is where I stay,if I reboot same results, same error
message. I cannot get into safe mode in any way. I can
select f8, right after startup, and get to a screen which
will let me select a drive to boot from, put in my
windows XP cd, and it brings me to windows setup. My
hard drive is partitioned, and when I check, the side
that has the apparant booting part, says "unknown". I
tried booting from the other partition, but it doesnt
work. Someone told me to take the harddrive, place it in
another computer, then I could copy my files to another
harddrive, and would have to reformat the harddrive I was
having problems with. When I did that, the new computer
only recongnizes the "good" partition on my harddrive,
and I cannot get into the "bad' or corrupt partitioned
side to transfer files. Anybody have any ideas? Man, I
would gladly pay someone via paypal, if they could talk
me through something that would work. Otherwise, I guess
its off to the computer repair shop on Monday,,,,and my
wife has bookkeeping to do, tomorrow.
thanks.

Sounds like that partition went bad. Recommend a reliable data recovery
place.
Or just format the drive and restore your data from backups.

Hi Jim,

Sounds like a corrupt partition. There is likely naught you can do but start
over, the chances of accessing anything on that partition using any means is
very slim. Hope you made backups of your data files.
