Error message: cannot read from the source file or disk

I seem to be saving the file for EVERY web site that I
visit.

SPYSWEEP and Norton AntiVirus are up to date and run
faithfully.

I ran both of the above and rebooted to start fresh.

I did a search on partial file name and was surprised to
find about 1000 hits, probably for every single time that
I accessed a file containing a specific word.

I backlit the entire list and hit delete and received the
message "Cannot read from the source file or disk".

I can delete Individual files on a one at a time basis.

Please help. Thank you.
I want all the "junk" off my computer to the best extent
that I can.

Are you referring to the temp folder?
In IE, tools, Internet Options, delete files. This will get rid of everything but the
cookies. You shouldn't get the error by deleting the files this way. Another way is
to right-click your hard drive icon in "My computer" and do a disk clean-up. May take
awhile to populate it.

Michael,

Does not give folder name. It gives a time stamp under
Folder (e.g. 3 weeks or 2 weeks) or just repeats the
address for the ones I visited today.

Thamnks.

I have my own system:
I have a list of shortcuts in my programs list to the
following folders;
History
cookies
IE5 content
temp
temp internet files
prefetch
And everynight before I switch off I empty these of all I
dont want , but I have found that when I delete the
folders in IE5 content The icons remain and if I try to
redelete them I get your error message but if I hit F5
they disappear.
This way I can keep certain cookies that are assotiated
with forums etc.
I find some files wont delete I just leave them.

Try this, open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, select Internet Options, on
the General tab, click Delete Cookies, Delete Files (Accept the option to
delete all offline content) and clear History. Reboot and see if the system
is then clear. From what you describe, it sounds as though the file(s) are
in the browser cache, the above will clear the cache.
