Hi
I have a Niulogic Laptop with a QSICDRW/DVD-ROM drive. Problem is it can
read CD but when I try opening DVD's, the drive opens up but no content is
showing in the DVD even though there are some data in the DVD.

Where could the problem be??

Cheers!

I'm using PowerDVD-XP Cyberlink software. Tried also accessing the drive
directly by double-clicking the drive but even though the drive opens up,
there is no object in the DVD that I put in.
Cheers

DVD and CD use separate lasers inside the drive, perhaps the DVD part
has died, but the CD part still works fine.

Do you have Nero's CD burning software installed? It seems to cause
many problems. We have it on a couple of hosts and periodically the
CD/DVD drive becomes unusable. The drive is known but no contents are
available (until after a reboot). It doesn't even require using Nero
to set off this behavior. Uninstalling Nero (and doing file and
registry cleanup) got rid of the problem. Alas, until we get
something else, we still need Nero on those hosts (but we are looking
to get something else to replace Nero). In my opinion, the last good
version of Nero was back in version 5. For those hosts with Nero 7,
we uninstalled it and went back to version 6 (we don't have version 5
around anymore). We obviously aren't going to bother with even more
bloat in version 8 with continued stability and usability problems
with their products.
