I have a FP 2003 website which has resided on Tripod.com since 2002. I
haven't published to it since September when it worked fine. Now when I
publish, it says, "Click remote properties to set up a remote website." If I
do that, it goes through the password window, then the remote properties
window, then says, "There is no website at
http://frontpage.tripod.com/mysitename." When I clear that, it loads the
remote files in the right pane. If I click publish, or try to open it, I get
an error saying there is no website; then if I click Details, I get the
following: 404 Not Found
Not Found The requested URL /_vti_bin/shtml.exe/_vti_rpc was not found
on this server.
If I click the Express publish button, it goes straight to the password
window, then I get the same results.

can anyone help?
Thanks,
Rusty

Looks like the extensions have been removed or are broken. Try
reinstalling the extensions on the site.

Forgot to mention that. I did it a couple of times last night. I also
deleted the service.lck file on tripod's file manager (maybe that's just a
Tripod thing?). The site's okay on Tripod, I can log in and edit and so
forth, though I did screw it up while repeatedly trying to publish. Lost the
shared borders.

I tried clearing FP cache; tools>site settings>advanced, but it didn't seem
like it took any action when I clicked it. I'm afraid to run fix and repair.
I deleted and re-entered the remote destination and passwords. I remember
that was an issue on my earlier FP version.

I'll keep hacking at it, but I'm out of ideas right now.

I've noticed that each time I try to publish, it transferrs a few files
before it errors. I manually transferred a few image files, and that worked
after several trys, but the site does not load completely in the browser.
Very slow too.

Tripod is a free service, and can be (probably is) overloaded. Does it
work better at 4AM :) (I had a site many years ago containing about 1MB
of files, that I could only publish at 4AM on Sunday mornings, until the
host upgraded the server. At other times/days the server always timed
out.)

Download FP Cleaner from http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm and
run the routines that delete the hidden web cache files, and hidden
temporary files - see if that helps.

It's clunking along now. It errors out still, but if I keep trying, I
eventually get it published. I had to reduce the file size on all of my
jpegs to less than 200k or they will never upload. Also my registration
form's confirmation page alters hyperlinks to something like
[http://www.kathyspark.com/_vti.bin/shtml.exe/registration.htm]. I don't
know what [vti.bin/shtml.exe] is, but I can't change it. It inserts that on
the nav bar in the bottom border on that page too. I'll go ahead and submit
a new post about that, but anyone who reads this is welcome to toss me an idea
Thanks,
Rusty

Create a separate confirmation page named confirmation.htm and set the form properties on registration.htm to point to your custom
page confirmation page

That's actually exactly what I have. My question was confusing because I
pasted the wrong URL in it. Sorry about that... Doh!
The target was supposed to say "index.htm" instead of "registration.htm."
Even the link bars in the shared border did it. Anyway, after failing to
make it work, I just added a redirect, so the user sees their successful
confirmation for 3 seconds and then it pops right back to the home page like
I want it to.
