Please help: I cannot print on my network.

I have 2 PC's in a LAN, both with Windows 2000. On PC #1 I have a
printer.

If I log on to PC #2 as an administrator, I can print. If I log on as
a user, I cannot.

As a user on PC #2, I do get that print-icon in my system tray and it
says it's printing. Then, the status changes into 'Deleting -
Printed'. But, no prints are made.

PC #1 has the Guest account enabled. Both the Guest account and
'Everyone' have printing rights.

There are no error messages on either PC.

What should I do?

Arend,

I got this from a guy in Australia and it worked for me
although removing the permissions of a back-up user is
still a mystery!

1) Open Active Directory Users and Computers
2) Open the users properties
3) Go to the 'Member Of' tab
4) Click Add
5) Type backup in the text box and press the check names
button
6) press the ok button
7) get the user to log off and back in

If your not in a domain at all you can do something
similar in the Local users and groups in computer
management.

Hi Phil,

Thank you for answering my question. There is no domain here (it's
just the 2 PC's). I did add the Backup Operator group-privileges to
the users. I did this on PC #1 (the PC with the printer attached)
only.

Unfortunately, there was no improvement, I still cannot print. What
can I do?

For email replies, please remove 'NOSPAM' in the address.

You haven't mentioned if users on PC #2 have accounts on PC #1. If not,
they are not included in the 'everyone' group. Try giving the 'ANONYMOUS
LOGIN' group permissions to the printer and see if that clears things up.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the response. Yes, users logging in to PC#2 do have
accounts (same username, same password) on PC#1.

In the meantime, an answer to my misery has presented itself. Please
see my post following the messages of Phil and Meul.
