I am having an odd issue with my PC. I can print from any program on
the system except for IE6.0 When attempting to print, or looking at
the print preview, all that shows up is a blank page with the address
to a local temp file.

Any ideas as to what could cause this and how to rectify the
situation?

Thanks in advance,
Dennis

Erimikos and all,
I am having the exact same problem. I am running Win 2000 Pro, IE 6 SP 1.
This all started about the same time as Erimikos' post, 11/9/2004. Before
that everything was fine. I have no viruses on the system that my virus
software can find. Another thing that is happening is on the address bar I
used to be able to type in the main part of a URL and hit Ctrl+Enter and IE
would fill in the http" part and the ".com" part. Now it won't do that
either.
At a loss for solutions please help,
Thanks Otter

Hi Jan,
Thanks for your post. I have looked at all of these links already they
aren't really pertinent to the problem. I don't get a blank page when I hit
the print icon. I just don't get anything, except exercise for my mouse and
mouse finger. I do get a blank screen if I hit the print preview icon
though..... The printer is connected and works fine I can print with every
other application on my machine. But if I want to print anything from the
Internet I have to copy and paste into another application like Word or
something. My other option is to print from another machine which is
networked with this one. It too is running IE 6 SP 1 as well but with XP Pro
as the O/S though. I can print from some web sites if there is an
alternative print application and I don't have to use the printer icon from
the IE 6 toolbar. Here is something else I noted that seemed strange. When
I attempted to customize the toolbar in IE 6 the print preview icon was
called "messenger" shouldn't it be called "print preview"? Oh yeah, I
don't ever get any error messages from the print process.
Thanks :) Otter...

Hi Otter :-)

Sounds as if you have some files either currupted or damaged. I suggest
that you eleminate all scumware, and then repair the IE. If you need help
with the repair process post back and I'll post the instructions.

Here is some information and instructions for cleaning your system:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be sure to run CWShredder, AdAware and Spybot.
Download the newest version of HiJackThis here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/hijackthis.php
(or Spybot - Search and Destroy DSO Exploit Fix 1.3.1 TX)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4392.html
Also be sure to use the HijackThis. Please do not post your log to this
newsgroup, but to the HiJackThis Support Forum
http://www.hijackthis.de/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=10&guestlanguageid=4
or the Aumha HiJackThis forums

to allow the experts there to evaluate your log and advise you of the
necessary steps to clean your system.

Also this program searches for hidden .dlls that recreate the malware.

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of the programs
below, download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Also, get a copy of WINSOCKXPFIX available at:

(NOTE: It is reported that in XP SP2, the command netsh winsock reset
will fix this problem without the need for these programs.)

file, here:

Be sure to read the "How-to" info here:

You might also want to get Art's updater, SYS-UP.Zip, here for future
updating of these: http://home.epix.net/~artnpeg/.
(If you download and use the updater from the beginning, it will
automatically handle downloading the other files. Place them in a dedicated
folder after appropriate unzipping, and then run. This scan may take a long
time, as Sysclean is VERY extensive and thorough

and......

NOTE: If you can not download these programs from the Internet, if your PC
has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with CD-ROM burning
capabilities. Create a folder on the hard drive of the other computer called
HOLD, download the programs to that folder, then burn that folder to a CD.
Copy the HOLD folder to your HD and then install the programs from there
and run them. After you have IE access again, update all programs where
possible to get the latest definitions and run them again in Safe Mode to be
sure there are no lingering items on the system.

Hi Jan, just wanted to post back to let you know I have corrected my
problem. I went through all of your suggestions nothing really of any
consequence just a couple spyware cookies. I really appreciate your
assistance. I'm sure now that there were a few corrupt files. I did correct
the problem by going to the Microsoft download website and reinstalled
Internet Explorer 6 SP1. Everything is now AOK....

Otter ;-)
