"cannot play back audio stream"

I got on my computer and tried to play a cd. a message
came up that said i either dont have a sound card
installed or it is not working properly. well, i have a
sound card, so now all i need to do is find out how to
fix my problem. i found a web page that told me how to
fix everything, but my computer wouldnt let me do what it
said. what the exact message says is "cannot play back
the audio stream, no audio hardware is available, or
hardware is not responding." if you could help me if you
know what to do. that would be great. thanks

Upgrade to, or re-install, WMP9.
