Hi all,

After installing windows xp on a new machine several
months ago I had really poor sound and attempted loads of
things to fix it. It actually turned out to be the voodoo
graphics card but I had uninstalled all audio codecs
whilst trying to fix the problem. All of the normal media
files on my hd will play fine but when it comes to
playing a cd I get the message "Windows Media Player
cannot find the specified file. Be sure the path is typed
correctly. If it is, the file does not exist at the
specified location, or the computer where the file is
stored is offline.".

I've installed as many audio codecs as I can find but
still cannot get audio cd's to play. I've also tried
other players but it seems to be an os related problem
rather than anything else.

Anyone any ideas? I've been trying to work this one out
for ages.

Sounds like you need to go to the CD-ROM manufacturers
website to download WinXP drivers. Your drivers for your
soundcard may also need updating/replacing. You probably
deleted the codecs for that also.
