cannot play any avi videos on windows media player

i have done a search and cannot locate anything that even
has the abbr.of avi...my husband said he may have deleted
it when cleaning out our computer..is there any way i can
download a new avi program? i am basically computer
illeterate so i need to find the easiest way to do
this...any help would be much appreciated..thank you
