I am trying to get a windows xp home edition system to print to a local area
network printer. For some odd reason the laptop in question refuses to see
the printer on the network. It can see other printers and system.
Likewise, every other system can see the network printer but this one
computer. What could cause a system to refuse to recognize a specific IP
address even though it is connected properly and it works with other
systems?

There could be several reasons:
- Bad network cable
- Bad network adapter
- Wrong IP address
- IP address outside the current subnet
- Firewall

.

Have you added the network printer to your Printers
collection? I don't believe Windows automatically
configures networked printers even if you are on the
network.

Under W2K, goto Start/Settings/Printers/Add Printer Wizard
to add a network printer. You also need the drivers to be
loaded on your laptop.

Hope this helps
