Coincidential with a recent complete online Windows XP
Home update on my Compaq laptop and my wife's Compaq
desktop, we lost our LAN capability for file, printer,
and Internet Connection Sharing.
Our NIC cards use:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
QoS Packet Scheduler
NWLink NetBIOS
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
I did a Google groups search and someone suggested adding
NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport Protocol to
the above list. This brought back the network for file
and print sharing but not Internet Connection Sharing.
Now I cannot ping locally by name or number including
127.0.0.1.
However, I can ping online sites by name and number.
NET VIEW from my wife's computer sees her but not me.
NET VIEW from my laptop says System error 6118 has
occurred. The list of servers for this workgroup is not
currently available.
Any help?
