Cannot open published file on CD

I published a website to a CD and it works great in the two CD drives in the
machine that created it. If I move the CD to another machine, same CD
drives and same operating system XP Pro with all the latest MS updates in
both machine, the website starts up but it is missing the Banner and it just
shows a red X and the text.

I enabled the hidden folders and tracked down the gif file on the CD but it
cannot be opened, not even right click brings up anything. I tried IE,
another viewer and when I tried Paint it told me the file is unreadable of
corrupt. I put the CD back in the first machine and it has no problem
opening this file.

In case it was a write problem of some kind, I did create 2 CDs, 1 on either
drive and both had the same results.

Anyone know what could be causing this problem?

Is the image actually on the CD? Is the drive letter the same for the CD drive on all machines?

Did you publish to a folder on your computer and then burn it to the CD?
Try that routine to see if it can be read on the other computers. I'm not
sure why you are doing what you describe, but if the Web site has been
Published to the Internet, you should be able to use IE and choose Edit with
Microsoft Office FrontPage from the File dropdown menu and then Publish it
to the hard drive on each computer. I'm assuming that FrontPage is installed
on all computers.

Yes the file is on the CD, I can use the Windows Explorer on the first
machine to copy it from the CD. If I try that on the second machine, I
can't access the file.

No the drive letters are different but that should not matter. There is no
drive letter in the html code and I do not want one.

Hello Chuck,

I published to the CD because that is I how I want to distribute the
website, it will not be published to the Internet. One CD and then just
make however many copies you need. There used to be a good program called
CDit by Strictly British but they have gone under. I have used Frontpage to
publish to CDs before without a problem. Even now the Website, about 600MB,
is fine except for the missing banner on the first page.

I don't think publishing to a hard drive and then copying to a CD would
work, too many links would be broken.

Frontpage is only one machine, it should not be required to view the CD,
just like you do not need it to explore the Internet.

Thanks,
Al

Thanks Tom, that is a good article. I will try their suggestion about
publishing to a CD-RW and then make some file property changes. It really
does not explain why the CD-R works fine in one machine and not in the
other. I am going to take that CD-R to a laptop today with XP Home and will
be real curious to see the result.

The article suggested deleting all *.lck files on the CD, there was only one
to delete. I copied the CD to hard drive, deleted that file, then copied
back to a new CD-R. This time the website banner came up on the second
machine.

Thanks
Al
