I have Power Point 97 on this work station. I was sent a slide show
but cannot open it. I "assume" it was done in a newer version of PP.
It is a .pps file. Some I can open and some I can't. How can I correct
this? Company is not ready to purchase newer software.
Thanks!

Presentations created in newer versions of PowerPoint should still open
in 97, but some of the features might not work. You might try changing
the file extension from .pps to .ppt and seeing if you can open it. Or
you might try opening the PowerPoint application and then opening the
file by choosing Open from the File menu. Another suggestion is that you
might try downloading the free PowerPoint viewer and opening it with
that.

If one of these things works, it might be that your registry is set to
not open .pps files with PowerPoint. Can you create your own .pps files
with PowerPoint 97 and open them?

If none of these things works, then the file you received might not be a
PowerPoint file, or it might be damaged.

In addition to David's suggestions, it might be that the file has been
password protected or was corrupted in the process of being mailed to you.
I would check with the sender. If the file is password protected, you won't
be able to open it, even if you receive the password. They would have to
send you a version that is not password protected. If it is corrupted, they
could use WinZip to zip the file and send it to you. That should get it to
you in an uncorrupted state.
