Hi,

we just bought new PC with windows XP sp2 installed. When I access the
company intranet, and click the file, nothing is happened--cannot open or
download any files for both IE6 and IE7.

But this issue doesn't happen for other pcs.

Does someone here help me to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance

If the problem only occurs on your computer, then you know the issue is
unique to the new machine. What security programs do you have installed?
Since you have a company intranet, you should probably just have your IT
Dept. take a look. If you don't have an IT Dept., post back with:

1. Version of server you're running.

2. I'm assuming that your new machine is XP Pro and you've joined it to the
domain (and that you have a domain). If this isn't a correct guess, supply
the missing details.

3. Name and version of antivirus/firewall/security software on the new
computer.

Many thanks for your help.

I am only IT support at my office. Normally, I install Mcafee antivirus for
all the computers and turn off the windows firewall. That Anti-Virus is
enterprise version which is installed to all computers.
But when we received the new PCs, Symantec security trial version were
already installed. I moved all trial version from these PCs.
We run Small Business Server 2003 R2, and these new PCs have been already
joined the domain. I use administrator account could not open these file in
the company intranet from these new PCs. But all other staff can open and
download the files from other PCs.
All computers are using Windows XP SP2.

Hope to get further help from you.

Hi Malke,

Forget to add the error message. When I right-click the files in the
intranet, the error shows below
javascript:__doPostBack('dlItems$ctl01$LinkButton2','')

I generally format the HD and start with a clean install when faced with
this, one of the worst of all examples of foistware. On occasions when I
have uninstalled it instead, it sometimes comes back to haunt me a while
later in the form of unexpected network problems. If it's NAV alone
uninstalling is reasonable, if it's the NIS suite then I would definitely
flatten and rebuild.

Unfortunately, foistware like this costs money for the IT installler and
client, in terms of wasted time. Especially if a lot of other software is
installed before the decision to flatten is taken. But, that's the way
things are.

There is a removal-tool on Symantec's site which I've known to do a better
job than the standard uninstaller, worth a try if flattening would cause too
much grief.

Anteaus is a real SysAdmin whose eyes glow (like all real SysAdmins) and I
agree with him 100%. When setting up new computers for a business, I always
do a clean install. This way you won't run into any of these Norton-related
issues. Yes, this is more work but in combination with imaging, should only
take a few hours.

So clean-install Windows, image the master machine, apply the image to the
other two computers. You should be imaging your workstations and server
regularly if you are not already doing this.
