Cannot open my word documents

I purchased and downloaded Microsoft Office Small Business
Edition 2003 to my recently purchased Compac Presario XP
computer. I cannot open any of my old files. I created a
new file and find I cannot accest that file. What is the
problem?

If you are trying to open a document outside of Word, the issue may be with document extensions. The .doc extension must be set to open with WINWORD.EXE.

If this is the issue, the easiest way to confirm is to see if you can open Word first, then in File, Open browse to the file. If you can open it this way, but not outside of Word by double-clicking on the file, then this is likely the issue.

Document extension registration can be found in Tools, Options in Windows Explorer
