every time i open it i get a message taht says "i.e.
encountered a problem and must close..." it wont open up
at all. i've uninstalled and reinstalled it with no
success. i'm running windows xp..any help or
suggestions?....thanks for your time in advance, patrick

You may need to check the details on that message. It
might tell you more. However, you may also need to
figure out what else you have running. For instance, you
may have things in the systray that are competing with IE
for space, and they don't like each other - bugs
essentially. You may not be uninstalling, but just
removing a link, which is the default if you use the
standard Add Remove Programs in XP.

You could always try to browse to the site within
Explorer. Explorer and IE are linked tightly, and you
can type in a web page address on the bar at the top and
it'll go out to the web just as easily as it goes to your
local files.

This is only a start. I'd start by trying to eliminate
other programs, and checking the error more closely.
Since I'm running XP and IE (to do this) and don't get
errors, I have to wonder what's different. Make sense?
Also, you might do things like check for updates from
MS's site.

Good luck!

patrick,
From Control Panel. Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing... UNCHECK "Enable
third party browser extensions, then restart.

If that helps, look for spyware, parasites, other malware with (in this
order- you don't have to run them all. Stop when the problem's fixed)
