Since Tuesday, Jan. 27, each time I click on the IE icon
the error message "IE has encountered a problem and needs
to close" appears. I've tried all the usual uninstall &
reinstall. Outlook and Outlook Express work just fine. So
many programs are tied into IE that it's essential that
it gets back on track.

George,

To test with: Disable third-party browser extensions in Internet
Explorer
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Internet Options.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Under Browsing, clear the Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) check box.
5. Restart Internet Explorer.

If this helps, read here for further troubleshooting:

third party extensions is ALREADY enabled.
It should be disabled for troubleshooting purposes. Then, see my previous response.
