We recently had Windows XP put on our computer because Microsoft was going to stop support to 98. Now I cannot open an Excel file that I made when using Office 2000 and Windows 98. Why and how can I fix it. I am told that the network link(which I am not on) cannot find the file yet it shows up on my Excel documents and in "MY Documents".

You need to install either Microsoft Office or Excel on your computer.
Then you can open an Excel file.

Excel "remembers" where the file is. Even if the file is no longer there.

You need to get access to the location (presumably on the network) where
this file is located.

Seek help from the folks who put XP on your machine.

You didn't say if you installed Microsoft Office 2000 on your XP machine
after the upgrade. If you did and it still won't open them, you may have a
similar problem that some of us had at work recently when we upgraded from
Windows 98 to Windows 2000. We are still using Office 97, and although we
could "open" the files, we could not make changes to any of them unless we
saved them as another file. Then had the same problem next time we opened
that file. The solution was to perform updates from Microsoft on the Office
programs. Then like magic everything worked.
