Cannot open desktop icons

Cannot open desktop icons. Double-click on a desktop icon
does not open the application. Must right mouse click on
the icon and select explore.

Does anyone know why this would occur? Virus maybe? Any
way to fix without re-formatting?

Hello Kat,

We need to test this in Safe mode.
If it works correctly in SAFEMODE than it appears to be a 3rd party program interfering.

We can than use MSCONFIG to limit the 3rd party services & startup items from running.

Do you have and 3rd party or Microsoft extended mouse drivers installed?
Are you running any software like PCAnywhere or remotely possible?

Also verify that the double click speed has not been altered, or your keyboard does not have a stuck key.
