When I try to open attachments in my email, the screen goes grey. Eventually
I'm able to close out of Windows Mail, no error message. No security issue.
Can anyone help.

Also, when I try to close out of Internet Explorer, the screen goes grey and
trys to send a message to look for a solution to the problem or a reason it
closed. It closed because I closed it.

My husband is ready to take a hammer to this computer. Please help!!!!

What type of attachment? DOC, PDF, JPG, XLS?
It is always a better practice to save the attachment to your
hard drive, then open the saved file.

Sounds like your husband needs to attend an anger management
course...

The computer has been nothing but problems since we purchased it.

ALL types of attachments. The same thing happens when I try to save them.
It kicks me out of the Mail program.

This may seem unrelated, but which AntiVirus are you using?
If it's set to scan email, disable that.
If it's Norton or McAfee, you should consider replacing it.

Some of the AV programs that are installed on a new computer run on Vista
but are not really compatible with Windows Mail.

If you can't save attachments, it is probably due to your
antivirus program, as KristleBawl already indicated.
However, also check this setting in Windows Mail:
Tools, Options, Security, uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
