I cannot open ANY file using Office 2003, either one
created in Office 2003 or earlier version (XP).

The message I receive is:

"The file (filename here) is not available."

Has anyone experience this? Microsoft refuses to help, I
thought a company issued beta test software to get
feedback from customers, in this case however it appears
that they don't care.

Hi Jim,

Well beta is beta - it means it's not there for production.
There are newsgroups for supporting beta testers in the
beta testing program, but these aren't available for the
"brave souls" who download the software to try it out. Add
this to the fact that right now, MS is busy cleaning up the
last bugs in order to get the version into production...

Anyway, what you describe is NOT a common problem with any
version of the Office 2003 beta I've seen (starting with
Beta 1) - and I've been working with it for almost a year,
now. Sounds more like a problem with your Windows
configuration, to me. Do you have any other version of Word
installed in parallel? Can it open these files?

Where are the files stored: locally or on a network
location? Which version of Windows? Is your user profile an
"Administrator", or just a user?

This sounds like the problem described in "OFF: Cannot Open Office Documents
or Cannot Edit Inserted Objects After You Install Office XP Service Pack 2
or Office 2000 Service Pack 3 [KB328613]"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=328613), which is caused by a conflict
with the Norton Office Plug-in. If in fact that is the problem, Symantec and
Microsoft agree that the plug-in can be disabled without compromising your
virus protection provided you leave Auto-Protect enabled.
