Cannot network an XP box with a Win 2000 box

I am trying to network an XP computer with a WIN 2000
computer at home. I have a Linksys hub/router. I have
both computers set up to access the Internet through
Earthlink through the router with no problems, but I
cannot get the two to see each other as a part of a
workgroup (peer-to-peer) setting. I have tried the
network setup routines on both units with no results.
What am I missing?

These tips should help you get everything working:

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.

Turned off firewall software and was able to get
connected. Then ran network wizard on firewall software,
and I can now reconnect okay.
