Hello,

I am having a problem with IE and OE. It seems to have started following the
download of an update. What happens after connecting to the internet for a
short time is the tray at the bottom of the screen appears to "jump" and
then the font on the clock changes and all browsing and email functions
cease.

Following this, I can no longer download email or browse the internet. A
temporary solution seems to involve opening MSconfig and disabling all the
start-up items and then all the services except the Microsoft ones. This is
only a temp solution as I lose a lot of features as a result, just to get on
the 'Net.

Can anyone help me find a permanent fix for this?

Thanks.

Hi,
You've gotten a good start on troubleshooting. Just re-enable those startup
items (restart after each change) until you find the guilty program. There
may be an update for that program, reinstalling it may help or you may have
to leave it disabled.

Hope this helps,
Don

It is happening before I re-enable anything! I don't know what to do!

The problem is it is still happening before I restart *anything*!

Do a thorough malware check. Help with malware:

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

Hi,

Still having the same problems and even diabling start-up and services isn't
helping. I'm getting a few mins on Net before IE6 appears to "jump" and then
I can't do anything without switching off and switching on. I'm at a loss...

Did you do the malware checking?
Where did you post your HijackThis log? (Don't post it here!) Please
provide link.
