i am working on a document where i cannot enter the footer to make
modifcations. the header is visible and can be modified. the footer is
not visible (although it is supposed to exist, at least it did in
previous versions). however clicking on the icon to go from header to
footer has no effect.

can anybody give advice? what can be wrong?

/thx in advance Walter

ps: i am using Word97, SR2

I think you can make that happen in 97 by setting the margins too small. Check File | Page Setup & try a 1" margin for the bottom margin to see if footer comes into view. IF that works, you might have to fix a few page breaks here and there. If it doesn't work, then try Suzanne's response.

Good point. If the footer (not bottom) margin were set to 0", you might not
be able to access the footer.

Hope I didn't step on your toes, Suzanne. It's just that it was a problem I'd experienced before and since it was so quick and easy to check ... .

Actually, it's equally true that if the bottom margin were too small, you
might not be able to see the footer, but if the footer margin is the default
0.5", it will override the bottom margin.
