Cannot make icons stay where I want them!!

When I try to arrange desktop icons starting far left of desktop and I open
a window or have anything open, the stupid icons end up all in the middle.
Then if I try to rearrange them they jump back again.
 
Did you turn off Align to Grid? Right click > View > uncheck "Align to
Grid". Which build are you running?
