Hello... I have a friend who bought a Vista machine (big mistake). She uses
AOL. Once and all of a sudden, the computer could not see the modem. I
fixed that (after 8 hours). But now when I open AOL and then try to logon,
it goes into an endless loop. It says that there was an error (cannot tell
me what) and then closes AOL, opens AOL, attempts to logon... back to the
error... and on it goes.

I've called AOL... no help there... they say they're not providing help for
DSL connections anymore. Is there anyone here who has the same problem or
has a friend who has a similar problem? If yes (I hope so)... please tell me
how to fix it.

The next stop is to uninstall Vista (the same AOL app works fine in XP) and
downgrade (in this case, it's an upgrade) back to XP.

Microsoft Windows Vista is a nightmare... I will never buy a machine with
this crappy OS installed on it.

You ought to get a job with AOL... you were no help at all.

If any PERSON has any help to give, I would surely appreciate it.
Thanks

Not all true........myself I am quite content with Vista so far....and I
am not a newbie at using various OS'es by any means.

Seems to me that the next step is to uninstall AOL's software, run a
registry cleaner utility, spyware, adware, temp file etc cleanup
utilities and possibly a virus scanner and then reinstall.....and what
about Vista SP1? Is that installed on your friends system? If not,
uninstall AOL, install SP1 and then reinstall AOL.....see what happens.
:-)

..........and BTW, one would have to go through exactly this proceedure
if running into problems with XP too. :-)

Also have you tried disabling java and javascript? There are probably a
few more things you could try which don't cross my mind right now....but
I am quite sure that other partipants here will be more than willing to

Sorry but that's just rubbish.....

Great for you... I'm very happy for you. But there wouldn't be the negative
buzz on Vista if MOST folks using it weren't running into major problems.
(See John C. Dvorak).

I've done everything you mentioned except SP1. I'll have to take the
computer to another location... since we cannot get online from her home.
I'll try to get her the upgrade.

Never had the major problems using XP.

point out any deficiencies in my memory recall! <grin>

Thanks for all of your suggestions. You've been very helpful.
