My pc boots up (laptop) and gets to the user log in. When i enter the
password the screen says it is loading, but then stops. I cannot access
anywhere on my pc. Any ideas how i can log on without inserting recovery
disks and starting from scratch? I recently downloaded the panda antivirus
and thats when the problems started. Got too much data on hardrive to lose
it.

Thanks

Hi Bob,

Boot to Safe mode with Command prompt, logon as administrator. Do this by
hitting F8 as Windows first begins to load, immediately after the BIOS POST
screen. From the prompt, there are a couple of things you can try:

a) Run "control appwiz.cpl" to open the Add/Remove dialog where you can
uninstall PandaAV and hopefully undo the damage.

b) Run C:\Windows\System32\Restore\rstrui.exe to open the System Restore
Dialog and go back to a point before the installation.

I have a similar problem. Using Windows XP home, was cleaning up my laptop's
desktop that had all of the standard new software (AOL, MSN, MS Money, etc.,
etc). After cleaning off the desktop shortcuts I went to the control panel
to add/remove programs. I did an uninstall on AOL (which was never used) and
one or two other programs. After rebooting, the computer is now taking me to
the standard windows login screen and requests a password. I never had a
password for this computer (i.e. when logging in, the computer went straight
to my desktop). Not sure what to do. I've tried logging in using safe mode
through the administrator ID (password blank), but get an error that says
"the local policy of this system does not permit you to logon interactively".
If I could get to a command prompt, I think I could try to run a system
restore. Have no reason to believe I have a virus or anything like that
(just updated windows the day before and using updated virus protection
software). Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
