Cannot log into Windows 2000

When logging into the Windows 2000 computer there is an User Environment
window pops up with the message “Windows cannot log you on because the
profile cannot be loaded. Detail – The system cannot find the file
specified.†When the computer is restarted, you are able to log into Windows
2000 fine. This does not happen to our Windows XP machines.

Event View:
Event ID: 1000
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Windows cannot load the user’s profile but has logged you on with the
default profile for the system.
DETAIL – The system cannot find the file specified.

The profiles are local and not roaming profiles.

This is not a question about Win2000 vs. WinXP but a question
about your profile folders. Try renaming one of the profile folders
that cannot be loaded in order to force Windows to create a new
folder.

It only happens on Windows 2000 and it is not an issue with Windows XP. I
renamed the profile folder and created a new one. When I log off and log back
in I get the same error. This is happening to other Windows 2000 computers.

computers.

This may be happening on your Win2000 PCs but it is not
a peculiarity of Win2000 in general. If this was my show then
I would rebuild one of these machines, then add the various
site-specific applications and customisations until I found the
agent responsible for this behaviour.
 
Jason I am currently having the same problem on all of my 2000 pro computers.
I am aiming the time frame to the beginning of April that the problem
started. What time frame did it start on your computers?
 
Yes it was around that time. I reformated a computer and put Windows 2000 on
and the same error message pops up.
