I am trying to record old vinvl records onto CD. Not really a problem since
I have been doing it for some time using a Dell OptiPlex running Windows 98
and WaveLab. I was setting up a system for someone else using an IBM laptop
running Windows 2000 but had the following problem. If I plug the record
player into the line in input I can hear what is being recorded throught
the laptop speakers, but the level from the record player is too low to
record properly. If I use the microphone input it records great, good
levels etc. but I cannot hear anything through the speakers while I am
actually recording which is a real nuisance. I thought it may be the
laptop, so I tried the same thing on my Compaq laptop running Windows 2000
and a Toshiba laptop runninmg XP. The XP was fine, but I experienced
exactly the same thing on the Compaq so assume it is a 'feature' of Windows
2000. I can understand it in a way because of feedback problems with a
microphone - but surely there is a way to overide it - Isn't there???? I
can't find one.
Any help will be enornously welcomed.
Thanks
