Cannot Launch EI in Multiple Processes Anymore

Until recently - perhaps with the last update from MS - I could launch
multiple copies of IE so I could have multiple websites up for reference
while working. Using IE 6.0 with Windows XP.

Now only one copy of IE will launch. When one copy is running and I attempt
to launch a second - the first goes away. Made changes in URL:HyperText
Transfer Protocal per another article reviewed - turning off DDE in the
Windows Explorer, Folders Option area - didn't help. Adding %1 to the end of
the command line for IE didn't help either in this area. These changes were
referenced for Windows 2000.

Have another machine - XP Professional - and multiple launch seems to
continue to work on it.

Suggestions! Seems to have started with most recent MS downloaded update?

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".

Also, if you have Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program (especially uninstall Yahoo Companion).

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

Frank - thanks for the info. I happend to talk with MS support yesterday PM
thinking the last Windows update may have caused the problem. It may have,
but after about two hours of trying varioius things, we got the problem
resolved.

In IE going to Tools, then Internet Options, Advanced and unchecking Enable
Third Party Browser Extensions - I now get multiple processes running IE.

Just prior to this post - I noted that my Google bar was gone from the IE
window and in attempting to reinstall - Google notes that the above change
was made and will change it back - re check it. I therefore have just not
reinstalled the Google bar on the IE to eleminate the problem.

I also have left "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" un checked.

One check mark caused the problem as best I can tell.

If unchecking Enable Third Party Browser Extensions fixed anything you
should eliminate the spyware that caused the problem.

Just noticed that Yahoo had been intalled in my programs when I went in to
check and remove unneeded programs. Evidently Yahoo got installed at some
point a few days ago. As far as I know I did not authorize the addition and
I guess it was not caught by McAfee.

Anyway - IE works fine now, multiple processes, and I can include my Google
toolbar on the IE screen again as I was until a few days ago.

The Enable Third Party Extensions box is checked and everything works fine
again.

Appreciate your help - next time a browser problem occurs - I will be sure
to check for unauthorized programs being installed without my knowledge.
