I can't install windows XP on my computer. I just bought
a new hard drive, a 40 GB maxtor, and want to install XP
to it. I started out trying to install it using my XP
upgrade disk. I created a partition and formatted the
drive and the install seemed to be going fine. Then when
the machine rebooted, I got a blue screen of death that
said UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME STOP: 0x000000ED
(0x81B8B900, 0xC0000185, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). So I
reformatted my drive and installed Windows 98. It works
fine, but when I try to upgrade it to XP the setup quits
and tells me that drive C is corrupt. What is keeping me
from installing XP? HOw can my hard drive be corrupt,
its brand new? There was nothing even on it before I
tried to install windows. I have tried over and over
with no luck. I have formatted with FAT32 and NFTS and
neither works. Which file system is better anyway? I am
extremely frustrated and am now without a computer.
