Cannot Install Via IDE Bus Master Drivers

J

Joe Christl

I just reinstalled a friends xp machine. For some reason the VIA IDE
Bus Master Drivers will not install. The pc is an ASUS A7V KT133, with
XP Home.

I used the driver from the CD, with no luck. I downloaded the VIA
Hyperion drivers from www.viaarena.com with no luck. I downloaded the
drivers from ASUS, with no luck. I allowed the wizard to searh the
disk for the drivers with no luck. I installed SP2 (thinking that
would somehow install the driver) with no luck.

I'm running out of ideas. It would be nice if driver install wizard
had some form of logging to at least explain why it isn't working.

Can anyone come up with any ideas?

Thanks, Joe

Try getting into the Device Manager and right click on the VIA IDE Bus
Controller - it should be highlighted with an exclamation mark already.
Uninstall any such nonfunctional Controllers and then do a new Search for
hardware changes in the Action menu. When it prompts to install the driver,
don't let it search the net or the hard, or do any autodetect, but choose to
install the drivers from a specific location, then browse to the folder you
have the drivers in - prefeably from it's own install CD. If it dowsn't
prompt to instal the drivers just right click on the controller and choose
Update driver and do the above.

Also, if you just uninstall any IDE drivers and right after run the install
CD and choose to install the drivers, it should work, or give at least some
error message. These CDs usually have some sort of autorun menu and have
options to install the drivers for the motherboard.

Check if the CD you have is the one that came with the M-Board.

If no go, could you post some more specifics as to exactly what happens?
much love

Okay now this is weird. First off, this is saying its a SCSI or RAID
controller, but the only controller on the board is already installed
properly (promise). I think windows xp is confused a little.

At any rate, I disabled it, then re-enabled it a couple of times, and
*BAMF* it says its installed fine.

I'm just gonna leave well enough alone, since its content now. :)

If it is a Promise ATA133 then I understand it. I used to have one and got
the same message even though what it wanted was the diskette with the driver
on it. There were four drivers and some were RAID.
