I had an old Canon Printer installed (on my Dell 4500
with Windows XP), and then it stopped working and there
was no more printer installed. i tried to re-install but
meesage states "Operation could not be completed" when I
hit the install printer button from the control panel
menus. I was told because it is an older printer and not
compatible with XP although it worked before??....now I
have an Epson 777 color and same problem and message. I
have downloaded drivers from Epson site, but on automatic
install it dod not comlpete stating I am missing RCP??
Also when I hit the install printer I still
get "Operation could not be completed".....Does anyone
know what is up with this and offer some help?
Kindest Regards Penquina

Far more likely your print spooler stopped. From the command prompt, type

net start spooler

hit enter then see if the printer has returned. if not....

a) Ensure you've completely uninstalled any trace(s) of the old printer.

b) After the reboot, ensure you're logged on as an Administrator or User
with Admin Rights.

Download the software from the Canon website and install it BEFORE
connecting the printer to the PC.

There are not many older Canon inkjet printers which are not compatible but
there are a few. Unfortunately since you don't tell us which you have, I
cannot tell you whether you have one or not.
