cannot install printer

my comp(compac presario 1.6 ghz 256 meg ddr ram )has win
xp home and will not let me install my printer. the
printer was installed before and working properly but my
kids got onto the comp and somehow deleted the printer
and now when i try to re-install it i get the following
error mesg.(Operation could not be completed). nothing i
have been able to try yet has work . any help would be a
big help . ty :D

What is the brand and model of your printer, use USB or
serial port?
Pls post back with details so that someone may help you.

Have you tried the Mfg's. Website? For instance, if you

have an HP, they have a great support area and probably
have info on your problem. Also, if you have a USB
printer, it's a little different setup. If it is, during
set up, you want to be sure to select USB port instead of
LPT1.
 
Travis ... you'll need to unplug the printer first, remove the printer
program, and be sure to remove the printer from 'Printers and Faxes', File,
Server Properties, Drivers tab. Re-install the software and don't plug in
the printer until it tells you to.

my printer is a canon bjc-1000. non usb ,i was told it

might be some kind of registry problem because i cant
install any printer at all right now .and i dont know
what the kids could have done to the comp but every time
someone forgets to log off the computer and they start
playing with it .it takes me 2 to 3 hrs to get it running
the way it should be .lol (sigh kids gotta love them)
 
a) Ensure the print spooler is started by typing

net start spooler

at the command prompt and then hitting enter

b) At the command prompt, type

sfc /scannow

After it's finished, reboot the PC. Now try to install again.
