I am having a problem re-installing my FP 2002 on my win 98 machine. I used
to use this program a lot and one day I did a microsoft critical update and
lost my internet exployer. I switched to Monzilla and was able to fix
exployer. But then I tried to use FP 2002 again and it hangs up. I tried to
install it again and it reaches a point about 3 screens in and just hangs up.
Only way out is to cntl-alt-del and kill the process. I tried to un-install
and the same thing happens. I put in the original CD and it does exactly the
same thing. Any suggestions?

Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
Then get the correct Windows Installer from
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;292539
Run a Windows Installer clean up on FP
from http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301&Product=offx
Then try a new Install

Thanks Stefan,
I went to the link "run a repair on IE" .. I didn't find anything to run.
There were some instructions on how to edit the registery, but I don't know
what part to edit.
I went to the link to get the correct installer for 98. When I downloaded
it and ran it, I got an error to the effect that it was already installed.
Then I went to the link to run a windows installer cleanup. That program
does exactly what the FP2002 program does. Locks up right at the begining.

Do I need to delete the old installer? And how do I do that?

thanks

I need to add this. When I try to install directly from the CD, after I
enter the Product ID number, thats the point it hangs up. Not even the help
or cancel or 'X' will respond. I have to cntr-alt-del and kill the process
to get out.

WHat is the name of the installer program. I suspect I need to delete it
because I can't overwrite it for some reason.

When I try to install the newer installer I get the error that the specified
service is already installed.

To repair IE in Windows 98, go to Control Panel > Add Remove Programs.
Click on the Internet Explorer entry, click Add/Remove and the repair panel will open.
Select Repair, and if prompted, select "install anyway."

When it's done, restart the machine.

Then try the FP install.

Ran the repair on IE. Seemed to do something. But I am not having problems
with IE anymore. Its FP2002. I tried again to install FD2002 and did the
same thing.

After the IE repair did you run the Windows Installer clean up on FP before trying to install it again
