Hello

I have just bought a new computer an installed Win XP Pro SP1 + all
updates.
Then I tried to install Norton Antivirus 2003, but got an error message
"internal error 3009,108". I followed the instructions on the Symantec
web, but it didn't help.
Tried with Norton Antivirus 2004, but it didn't work.
McAfee did install either, nor PC-nillin 2002.
I have made two Online Scan for virus, so it is unlikely that the
computer is infected.
I have shut off System Restore and Protected Storage.

Anyone recognize this?

regards / Bengt C

Please go to McAfee (http://www.mcafee.com/myapps/mfs/default.asp) and/or Trend
(http://housecall.antivirus.com ) and perform and online scan of your platform and report
back your results.

Based upon the results, we can go on from there.

Dave

Did you try logging in as Administrator? I think the default settings
disallow installation of software except by the administrator.

Thanks for your concern.
I have done the online scan wtih McAfee and Trend - and there was no viruses.

I am of course logged in as administrator and have no problem installing other software.
It seems like the programs want to interact with some part of the OS, and this fails. But what
part, and how to get around it?

When I tried to install McAfee virusscan 7.0 I got the message " SetupIterate() Error: Access
denied "

Does it make any sense to you?

I have no idea what caused the original installation of Norton to fail,
but I suspect the rest of the failures were caused by a partial installation
of norton still being present.

Try regcleaner, or similar programs to get rid of the remaining parts.

I have already used RegCleaner, and I guess I will have to reinstall Win XP to see if that helps.

Thanks anyway / Bengt C

Try first RNAV -utility from Symantec. It cleans your system from
Norton remnanats. You will find it from Symantecs web site
