Using PowerPoint 2000 SR-1 (9.0.5519)

Whenever I attempt to insert a sound file (.mp3 or .wav),
I it get the following messege: "PowerPoint couldn't
insert a sound from the selected file."

Prior to this, I had the sound icon on the selected slide,
once. I "right" clicked on it to remove the icon. From
then on, I get the above error messege.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.
