Cannot import particular Excel file into Access

I have a file that has been exported from a Crystal report. If I export the
file into Access without trying to make any changes I can do so. However, if
I need to make changes to the data before importing it into Access I get an
error that the file could not be imported. I have read through many other
posts on this site and I was unable to find a solution. I have other excel
spreadsheets that are exported data from Crystal that I can make changes to
and successfully import them into Access. I have checked the path filename
and it is correct and I am not changing any of the formatting of the data I
am just adding new information into the records that are already there. I
also have to delete the first 8 or 9 rows in order to get to the header
fields. Any suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

What's the actual error that the import comes up with? It sounds like the
Import wizard is making some incorrect guesses about what columns are
where, since you have to delete the first 8 or 9 rows. However, that
suggests to me that this file isn't actually an Excel spreadsheet, since
Access automatically detects the columns... is it a .csv file? Windows
associates those with Excel, but they're really text files - I suppose it
depends on what the Crystal Report is exporting the data as...

Try copying the rectangular grid of data to a brand new workbook and pasting
it in.
Save the new workbook and import that.

Sometimes Access "sees" phantom cells outside the range of data you are
working with.
By moving the data to a new workbook you eliminate this possibility.
