I have just purchased a Panosonic camera DMC.FZ38, which creates a
motion jpeg file that is not recognised by WMM, and i cannot import
it, i can download it into the computer but then cannot get it into
WMM. does anyone know how i may do this, or how to convert the file
to one that is acceptable for WMM.

Wow! Nice camera...
Lots of info...maybe some of it will be useful:
The info I find on the net indicates that your
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38 has several
Video Recording modes...which one are
you using?
4:3 VGA: 640 x 480 pixels, 30fps (Motion JPEG)
4:3 QVGA: 320 x 240 pixels, 30 fps (Motion JPEG)
16:9 WVGA: 848 x 480 pixels, 30 fps (Motion JPEG)
HD Movie 1280x720, NTSC Mode: NTSC model: 60p
(CCD output is 30p) / PAL model: 50p(CCD output is 25p)
(AVCHD Lite, SH: 17Mbps / H:13Mbps / L:9Mbps )
/ 30fps (Motion JPEG)
If you are using the HD mode...I doubt that the following
codec will be what you are looking for. I suspect you will
have to convert the video before you can import it into
Movie Maker...if even then successfully.
Direct download for MJPEG Codec:

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)
Unzip the file or just drag the .exe file out of the folder
and double left click it to install it.
I downloaded a sample HD .mts video clip from the
following site and used iWisoft Video Converter to
convert it to the .wmv format. It had to be rotated and
did not come out as good as expected but at least I
could import it into Movie Maker.
