Cannot import ALL my .pst folder

I never had problems before when I would save my .pst folder, to import the
..pst file and all it's folders that I created. Not so this month. Granted
my .pst folder shows a high volume (1,690,769kb in Explore) but it is NOT
that large. I just can't get it to decrease in size even with deleting,
deleting deleted items, compacting, whatever, the size in Explore only
increases.

Now this month, when I tried to import into a new install of Outlook, only 3
folders imported, tho I asked for the whole Personal Folder. at worst I
expect 2 Personal Folders but couldn't even get that. I positioned my saved
..pst file as the source for Outlook, because after the install, the Outlook
program requested a 'source'. but it only imported a few folders, not the
full .pst file I have been using for 6 yrs.

when I try to reimport, Outlook tells me it cannot import from same
location. that proves it is pointing to the bloated .pst folder/file but
yet I cannot view the emails in Outlook.

If I have missed any info, please ask. but is there any solution to this
dilemma or should I just give up on ever being able to see my old .pst file
again?

If my pst file is too large to import in my current setup, is there any file
I could use to convert the .pst file to something useable in Outlook
Express? a convertor of sorts?

TIA for your advice....katy

First of all, you should not need to import from a .PST. .PST is Outlook's
native file format, so you should just open it in Outlook, same as you would
open a .DOC file in Word. Go to File | Open and try to open your .PST from
there.

With that said, and this is going to be hard to figure out because you
didn't mention your Outlook version, but your file is probably approaching
the upper limit for a .PST file, which was 2GB in Outlook 2002 and earlier
versions. Problems usually start cropping up even earlier, anytime after the
1GB mark according to some user feedback. You may think your file should not
be that big but it probably really is, if you've tried deleting and
compacting. Compacting can only remove white space -- if there is none,
nothing can be compacted. So at this point your file still might not open in
Outlook even if you open it directly rather than trying to import.

I suggest you take a look at the following pages for some ideas. If you run
the Inbox Repair Tool, make sure you let it make a backup of your file before
it makes any changes -- at that file size it could make things worse, so a
backup would be a good thing to have just in case.

Thank you Jocelyn, I am using Outlook 2000 SP3, this time when reinstalling,
I chose corporate version, I think the one I had before was Internet only
but not sure. Also, I tried the File/Open to access the .pst file and it
brought in the same # of emails/folders as I had before, nothing more.
Anyway, I downloaded the 2gb152.exe file to try to fix the size problem but
it won't work unless I change my default mail client to Outlook. I have it
set to OE currently due to these problems below, how would I change my
Default Mail Client to Outlook? I've done searches in windows help and
Outlook help and found no help in changing email client. It's easy to SET
default client, but not so easy to change it. Can you help me?

I have another copy of my .pst file so I won't mind if the repair injures
it, I really can't use it this way anyway.

TIA....katy

Thanks Jocelyn, I ran the Oversized PST Recovery Tool and wasn't able to
complete it due to error message: "You may only use this utility on a PST
file that is at least 1900000000 bytes". my pst file does seem to be
getting bigger for some reason (no emails coming in) so I'll just try to
keep increasing it with forced emails to accomodate the tool. Thanks very
much for your help!! katy
