I went to Emachine and they had me download RealTex. When I did that I lost
the sound card for Windows. RealTex does not have a sound that matches
anything that is on the choices to select for a sound. The only one I could
hear is the sound of the Asterick. I have tried to find some other audio
software that is compatible with Windows XP but so far I have not found any.
I don't have the disk to reboot my computer with so therefore I cant get my
software back. Is there a solution to this probolem? Gateway took control
of my computer yesterday and there technician could not fix the problem.
Thanks.

Did you mean Realtek?

What do you mean, lost the sound card for Windows? Do you have a sound
card or are you using your motherboard's integrated sound?

Do you mean drivers for your sound card? Windows doesn't need a third-
party sound program. And all your Windoze sounds should be found in
Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > sounds tab.

Do you mean you don't have the original WinXP install disk? Even if
you don't you shouldn't need it to "get your software back."

Learned your lesson - don't call Gateway tech support. :P

When I go to Control Panel the only sound I see on the card is RealTex there
are no windows XP anything. I can't update drivers I dont have. That is
what I am trying to fix. RealTex has taken over the whole sound system on my
computer.
No I don't have a separate sound card, I am using the one that came with the
computer. Somewhere I have lost the drivers for Windows XP and cannot update
something I cant find. Thanks.

So there's no Sounds and Audio Devices icon in the control panel?

Have you tried uninstalling it in control panel > Add or Remove
programs?

You should be able to find the lost drivers on the MS update webpage.
