cannot get to Contacts from new email window

When I begin a new email, I get an error message in Outlook 2003 that says
"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated
with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or
deleted, or you do not have permissions...."

I did delete a Contacts folder that was duplicative, and now I have two
contacts folders, but only one shows up in the Contacts list. I can't get
to the other so I can copy all my contacts into it and delete the other.

I really don't know what I'm doing, anyway.

After you set your old PST file as the default correctly, reconfigure the
Outlook Address Book so that it points to it.
