cannot get to any web sites

Hi this is jeff i cannot get to any web sites i have joi internet they have tried everything i am on line now after an hour of tring to get on line page comes up ( page cannot be displayed ) (DNS error) i have no problem getting on line i get connected fast i cant get to any web sites is the problem with internet explorer this has never happened before i have tried different settings nothing works does anybody know what is going on i hope somebody can help me if not i will reinstall xp thanks jeff.

Can you ping your default gateway?
Can you ping your DNS server(s)?
